I’ve always been interested in Japan, its culture and its people. Shintoism (or kami-no-michi) particularly fascinated me because of its logic and spirit. The ethics of Shinto is not based on following any specific commandments, but rather following the will of the kami, the will of nature.
This Japanese kami abstract painting represents the river spirit in the form of river serpent. I used different shades of blue, turquoise and violet to show the liquidity of the kami and his surroundings and highlighted the painting with touches of Neapolitan yellow and ochre. I then put a see-through varnish to accentuate the feeling of water.
