When the summer comes to an end and autumn starts, bright summer colours are still so fresh in our memories. And when winter arrives, how we long for the warmth, joy, childish excitement and freedom of summer. We all remember those summers and long to get them back.
I painted this small semi-abstract floral painting at the end of one warm Balkan summer when the colors were bright, the skies were still blue, yet one could feel the hint of fall in the evening air.
I painted this one on a whim and allowed the colours to guide me. First, I covered the canvas with a coat of acrylic gesso and then I used some modelling paste for the flowers and the area on the right-hand side, which I later shaped into stalks. I then painted a Neapolitan Yellow and Ochre background on the left-hand side and mixed some blued for the right-hand side. After that, I acted on pure inspiration.
